Award Winning Belton Cheese Adds To Trophy Cabinet

Shropshire-based Belton Cheese has extended its successful run of awards having been presented with two prestigious accolades from both the regional business community and the dairy industry itself.

On Thursday, the team was presented with the Santander Midlands SME Exporter of the Year Award for its excellence in export. The award comes as a result of Belton’s 50% increase in exports this year; meaning that 15% of total sales in 2013 have been attributable to the overseas market.

Reinforcing their expertise in export, Barrie Kilfeather – a regional director for Santander – said: "Santander views exporting as a significant opportunity for SMEs across the Midlands and in Belton Cheese we can see an example of how its insurgent approach to overseas markets has paved the way to export success. Our judging panel was impressed with the way Belton Cheese has embraced exporting and we extend our congratulations to them."

Demand for Belton’s regional British cheeses now extends to Russia, the USA, Canada and South Africa and the company now has distributor clients in each of these markets as well as relationships in Australia and Japan.

The other accolades this week come from the dairy industry itself as Belton was awarded both a Food Chain Marketing Award and the Taste of Excellence Award in Dairy at the Cream Awards.

The Food Chain Marketing Award which recognises a new product or brand launched in the last twelve months that has been successfully created, packaged, marketed and promoted within the UK Dairy industry and the Taste of Excellence Award in Dairy for its Red Fox cheese brand.

The awards were organised in association with Proud of Dairy and saw 450 guests attend from across the industry at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham.

Belton’s Managing Director Justin Beckett concluded: “I am delighted with the recognition that our brand and our products have received from the industry and the business community in general this year. We are ambitious in our approach and marketing and export are two key areas of expertise that help set our product apart so I am delighted that influential third party organisations recognise that. It is an honour to be announcing yet more great news.”
